Kayaking Adventure at Kubang Badak River

Malaysia is a country well known for its adventure travel activities, whether it’s walking through a rainforest or any form of water sports. One place in Malaysia that is famous for its adventure travel is Langkawi Island and this is because there are so many adventures activities in Langkawi. Visiting Langkawi is incomplete without visiting The Kubang Badak River. It is located at the northwest part of the island. When you talk about adventure in Langkawi, this is a favourite tourist destination. The Langkawi Crocodile farm is here and it is home to the kayaking centre of Langkawi.

The Kubang Badak River is a costal river, which means it is a river running through mangrove trees. Local fishermen use certain spots along this river to leave their fishing nets. Which is why being a responsible traveller, one should be mindful of avoiding these nets, as not only will this damage the nets, it will also cause unnecessary dilemma for the tourist. The river is famous for its kayaking activity. Nature lovers and city slickers alike will benefit from this activity, as it shows us the importance of sustaining the environment. One will be amazed to see legendary creatures such as the sea eagle flying by, diving towards the river and flying away just in time to catch their prey fish.

Kayaking along this river should be the best way to experience the beauty of the mangroves, as one will be seeing all the amazing flora and fauna. The kayaking should take between 3 to 4 hours, all depending on the water current. You can start at the beginning of the river, kayaking to the coast or begin at the cost, slowly kayak your way up river. Being a responsible traveller, one should be equipped with all the necessary tools for this occasion and dressed to suit the environment. Wear something casual, bring enough water and if you’re allergic to the sun or to mosquitoes, bring sunblock and mosquito repellent along as well.  Since this activity involves water, bring along a spare change of clothes. While kayaking, you will notice how through the passage of time, water erosion has caused large rocks to take beautiful forms, making it look like beautiful pieces of art that someone has taken the time to carve. This experience starts with walking through the jungle, along a 400 meter mangrove bridge. One will see natural beauty in all its splendour. After that, hop onto one of the kayaks. One may acquire a tour guide who will educate the tourist about the river and its residents. The tour can be acquired for a price range between RM150 to RM250. Be mindful of the animals around you, don’t get too near the monkeys and don’t ever try to feed them. There have been cases of monkeys trying to hurt tourist who try to pet these creatures, assuming that it’s harmful.

Another activity that a traveller can indulge in while visiting Langkawi is swimming in the Kubang Badak River. The water is as clean as it gets and being a responsible traveller, it is our duty to keep the place as clean as possible by not littering and to sustain the natural beauty of the place by admiring the flora rather than taking home “souvenirs”. Other travellers should also be able to admire and indulge in the same natural magnificence as you have. Adventure in Langkawi doesn’t stop here. The list goes on and on. It is our duty to be mindful of our actions and to preserve the natural beauty of Langkawi.
